11. Surprisingly, the worst periods for mold and moisture saturation increases are spring and fall, including early winter when the air conditioner is not running

17. Our advanced systems incorporate HEPA filtration of all ventilation air added to the breathing zone. Our competitors rarely offer any filter at all, and if they do, it is usually a very small capacity, around six square inches of filter area, low efficiency polyester or hog's hair filter (you have seen them, they even look like hog's hair) that clogs up in weeks and is difficult to clean or replace. As the polyester or hog's hair filter clogs, the radon system stops working, even if their indicator tells you that the system is working fine.
18. Our HEPA filters contain no less than 1728 square inches of HEPA filtration material, about 288 times as much filtering capacity of the competition's filters. Our HEPA filters remove 99.97% of particles larger than 0.3 microns, a very small size. Our competitor's filters, if they have any at all, probably remove about 10-15% of airborne filth.

21. Our systems will not corrupt nor contaminate air conditioning ductwork with dust, dirt, pollen, mold/spores, chopped up insect body parts or particulate matter. The only correct cure for corrupted fiberglass ductwork is to remove it and to install new ducts. It is costly and totally unnecessary. 22. When we are finished, paid and gone, you will not find that we have quietly installed a warning sticker advising that radon system operation may cause (severe) mold problems, as do most of our competitors. They are well aware that their radon systems may cause mold problems in hot, humid climates, but they disclaim liability for damage that they know sometimes occurs. Radon Mitigation sounds very simple: Just open a window from time to time and let the RADON out. Or, drill a hole in the wall and install a fan to bring raw outdoor air into the air handler. In a hot, humid climate, It is not so simple... An open window or a radon fan may let in millions of mold spores and pollen particles each day, depositing them inside your ductwork and into your breathing zone. Also, delivering high humidity air may bring in as much as one or two hundred pounds of water vapor into a home each day , which, if not removed, soaks into everything, day after day. And of course, the air conditioning system is producing chilled surfaces on which the water vapor may condense and support mold growth.

Just because an air conditioner is cooling does not mean that it is dehumidifying. And many dehumidify poorly. And some do not dehumidify at all.

An unfiltered radon system has been shown to bring in 77,760,000 mold spores each day. And fifty to two hundred pounds of water vapor and mold food including organic dust, pollen and chopped-up insect body parts 24/7. This corruption is deposited inside the ductwork where it cannot be seen or cleaned. But it will accumulate, make mold and bacteria grow and digest building materials and personal property and make some occupants sick.

Your home is like  a sponge, and it will soak up the moisture over time, but finally it will get wet to the critical point that serious mold growth will occur and a major mold problem will suddenly appear. We have seen homes soak up moisture for over three years before the mold appeared. A recipe for illness, disaster and economic loss? You bet. And insurance will very rarely cover the cost of repair.

And what does the radon mitigator say when you call him about your mold problem three years after he installed the system??? "Didn't you see the warning sticker we put up telling you that we were not responsible for mold damage?" "No, well then, someone must have removed it. WE are not responsible, Good Bye."

And as a buyer you will accept the cheapest radon mitigation system that the seller can find?

September 1, 2006, we were in a condo that had a cheap radon system installed in 2001. Because it was noisy, it  had been turned off since shortly after installation. Current testing showed that the people who occupied the unit had been exposed to the approximate lung cancer risk equivalent to one cigarette per hour 24/7 for five years, and they did not know it. The only fortunate thing about it was that the condo was being used as a real estate sales office, and if any of the employees contracts lung cancer, they will have a strong claim for worker's compensation coverage of their medical bills for surgery, for medical treatment and for disability payments for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, survival rates for lung cancer have only slightly improved from about 5%. Ask your oncologist.
